Inclusion and Diversity

Diversity proved to be a key topic for the new Aurora partners who came together in Grenoble to share their perspectives. It transpired that there was fertile landscape of diversity measures ranging from equality commitments to models of socio-economic disadvantage. The meeting was quickly able to identify a working definition of diversity for the Aurora network diversity manifesto which was based around equal opportunities, creativity, critical thinking and open mindedness.

The outcomes of the meeting were numerous including a commitment to share best practice, strategies for aggregating minority groups to make a critical mass and a strong interest in promoting the positive aspects of diversity to stakeholders and funders.

UEA Academic Director of Admissions, Richard Harvey said "a number of the Aurora partners are making heroic efforts to correct societal inequalities and the meeting revealed a number of systematic, thoughtful and sensitive policies which were not only creative but also inspiring. However, one common theme was that while government and funders were keen to see such initiatives they were less keen to pay for them. So there is a job for Aurora to do in that regard".
