September 2013
This month, Times Higher Education published its 2013 ranking of the top 100 universities under 50 years of age. Given the methodological flaws in such rankings, the picture for national systems and shifts over the years may be more interesting than the absolute ranks of individual universities.
Compared with the 2012 THES under 50 ranking, there are few changes in the number of universities per country. The number of US, UK and Australia based universities decreasing slightly and marginal increases for countries like France and Spain.
Noteworthy: Maastricht University has risen considerably from 19th to 6th1.
