Aurora Reputation Gaps Persists

VU International News and Reviews No. 97 September 11 2017

September 2017

The Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking for 2018 shows that the reputation gap for Aurora universities is persisting.

Although six of the nine Aurora universities have improved their filed/size-weighted citation scores – and the other three were about stable – this is not reflected in their position in the Overall Ranking. Of the five Aurora universities with the highest citation scores, three actually went down in the overall Ranking, while two (Bergen and Iceland) went up only because they were so low in the 2017 rankings not to have been given a specific overall score. The University of Aberdeen shows a remarkable pattern: It goes up in the overall rankings and within-country position, even though its overall score has become slightly weaker. High time for Aurora universities to put on their thinking cap on how to narrow this reputation gap.
