Birmingham & Nottingham Universities investing over 4 M€ in Brazil

VU International News and Reviews No. 17 November 11 2013

November 2013

Times Higher Education reports that the University of Birmingham and the University of Nottingham will jointly invest 4 million pound (ca 4.7 M€) over the next 3 years in cooperation with universities and research institutions in Latin America, particularly in Brazil. The two universities see scientific collaboration with Brazil partners as critically important; the investment decision is a step in an on-going process, which has brought up the number of joint publication between Birmingham and Brazil partners from 22 in 2005 to 224 in 2012 (tenfold in 7 years). Internationalisation is not about quick fixes and short term margins and cooperation with partners in Brazil should not focus primarily on student recruitment, according to the vice chancellor of Nottingham.
