Chinese surpass Dutch universities in Leiden ranking; VU place 10/12 in Dutch University-Industry collaboration

In the newly published CWTS Leiden ranking, new excellent research universities have emerged from China, but also Iran and Brazil. For the first time, two Chinese universities (Nankai at 53 and Hunan at 55) rank higher than the first Dutch university on the ranking list (Leiden at 58, VU 4th Dutch university at 83). CWTS 2013 also gives information on University-Industry collaboration, with Eindhoven Technical University as the global leader with 15% of its publications coproduced with industry. Delft and Chalmers (Sweden) share second place with 14%; MIT clocks 7.6%). VU has 6.4% of its publications in collaboration with industry; of the 12 Dutch universities, only Radboud and UvA have lower percentages.
