Chinese university considers a London branch

In May this year, the Zhejiang University from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with Imperial College, London, concerning the development of a major research centre in the former BBC site known as White City in London. With this movement, Zhejiang University is the first to consider opening a branch in Europe. Zhejiang is a university with ca 23.000 undergraduate students, ca 24.000 Master´s & professional Master´s students, and ca 8.000 doctoral students. It rankings 24th in China in the QS ranking and 316 in the research oriented CWTS Leiden Ranking. 

The initiative of Zhejiang is fully in line with the Chinese national policy: according to the British newspaper the Telegraph, the department of International Cooperation and Exchanges at China’s Education ministry is committed to support and help its universities in these initiatives.
