The European Migration Network run by the European Commission has published a new study on Immigration of International Students to the EU, providing an analytical overview and statistics on the immigration and mobility policies of 24 EU Member States. International students represent a substantial proportion of the non-EU population in many countries, the study found. In 2011, 21% of over 2 million first residence permits were issued for educational reasons and of these, nearly 190,000 or close to 10% were issued for study purposes.
