Professor in a BRICS country

VU International News and Reviews No. 03 April 8 2013

April 2013

The Center of International Higher Education has published a book (February 2013) on the Global Future of Higher Education and the Academic Profession, focusing on the BRIC nations and analyzing the academic profession and particularly salaries and contracts as the professoriate is key to the success of any academic system. The BRICs show a variety of approaches to academic careers—and none provide globally competitive salaries. China and Russia, in particular, pay academics poorly. The book also analyzes how professors are appointed and promoted.
