Study abroad funded by international students

VU International News and Reviews No. 04 April 22 2013

April 2013

At the recent AIEA conference, a presentation was made on a Performance-based Reinvestment Model in which revenue earned from international students recruited, is used to increase study abroad scholarships and create other initiatives to support outbound mobility. The model was developed already in 2006 at the University of Cincinnati and later taken up by the California State University at Long Beach (2010) and the SUNY system (2009). A forcasting model has been developed by SUNY, which allows all types of institutions – both small and large, public and private – to concretely demonstrate how international tuition income can produce capacity improvements in a very short time.
