Sweden: grants to attract talent to the economy

VU International News and Reviews No. 22 February 03 2014

February 2014

As World University News and Reviews reports, a group of Swedish business and university leaders have made a plea for a programme of 1 500 grants to attract international students. They reckon that Sweden will profit, if one out of five grantees stays to work in Sweden for 5 years after graduation. Their plea is a reaction to the sharp decline of international student numbers in Sweden – from 8 000 to 1 600 – after the introduction of tuition fees for non EU nationals.
