The Global State of Young Scientists

VU International News and Reviews No. 22 February 03 2014

February 2014

In January, the Global Young Academy published a report with this title, focusing on such as issues as a) Mentoring & support systems, b) focused training, c) working conditions, and d) cultivating values.

The study was based on an online survey with 650 respondents and 45 participants in semi-structured interviews. It found that young scholars in Europe are the least confident about their career and that early career researchers work for an average of about 55 hours a week.

The Global Young Academy is a Berlin-based “voice of young scientists around the world”, which grew out of a meeting of IAP, the global network of science academies.
