UK report on HE in 2020

VU International News and Reviews No. 17 November 11 2013

November 2013

The British “Observatory on Borderless Higher Education” has published a “Horizon scanning” on the expected global HE landscape in 2020.

It looks at current and expected developments in shifts of gravity to Asia, international student recruitment, MOOCs, the role of partnerships, international branch campuses, and public and private funding (and public regulations).

Noteworthy: the report predicts that the trend to privatisation and commodification will continue, but probably not in continental. It also signals China´s focus on HE in Africa and predicts that Chinese Campuses in Africa are likely to emerge soon.
