On June 5th 2019, the Aurora Universities Network and the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam hosted the first Aurora SDG Lecture Series titled SDG 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
Philipp Pattberg, Professor of Transnational Environmental Governance and Policy and Director of the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute, will be hosting the lecture on SDG 17. SDG 17 aims to produce and maintain the necessary broader systemic conditions for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Innovative multi-stakeholder partnerships will play a crucial role in getting us to where we need by the year 2030. However, critical voices have questioned the overall effectiveness of multi-stakeholder partnerships and the involvement of the private sector. How much power do companies have in the SDGs? What can we learn from previous experiences? What can be done to improve partnerships for sustainable development?
