Aurora endorses Open Access week
Between 23 and 29 October, the International Open Access Week will take place organised by SPARC. The theme for this year’s 10th International Open Access Week will be “Open in order to…”.
It is an invitation to answer the question of what concrete benefits can be realized by making scholarly outputs openly available. “Open in order to…” serves as a prompt to move beyond talking about openness in itself and focus on what openness enables—in an individual discipline, at a particular institution, or in a specific context; then to take action to realize these benefits.
The International Open Access Week is organised by SPARC: the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, a global coalition committed to making Open the default for research and education.
Aurora, as network of research-intensive universities dedicated to match academic excellence with societal relevance & impact of their reaching, research and outreach activities, fully endorsed the work of SPARC and supports its efforts for Open Access and, more broadly, Open Science. Aurora intends to start an Aurora Research Benchmark Initiative next month, in which Open Science will be one of the pillars.
