VU University Amsterdam
The VU’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) immediately became one of the largest on the FutureLearn MOOC platform. English Pronunciation in a Global World” has now run twice. Around 10,000 participants each took part in the two editions. This makes the MOOC one of the largest on the FutureLearn MOOC platform. In the course, students will develop their own English pronunciation and learn about the origin of English pronunciation characteristics. In addition, the course aims to promote understanding and recognition of diversity in English accents. The MOOC is freely accessible in order to give people who do not have access to English education (still the majority in the world) an opportunity to learn English and to come into contact with other English speakers. This inclusive perspective fits in well with the VU’s vision of society and education. The MOOC is provided by Dr Laura Rupp. The next edition of the MOOC will take place in April 2020 (four weeks). Sylvia Moes, Innovation Manager Educational Support at the VUA University Library, has created an open online textbook on Environmental Toxicology with environmental toxicologists and environmental chemists from six Dutch universities. This book is easy to keep up to date and can be used for free by students and teachers worldwide.

As part of their preclinical training, dental students work on ‘phantom heads’ when practicing many of the skills that they will later need when treating patients. However, drilling holes in plastic teeth is not particularly realistic. For several years, staff at ACTA have been working on Simodont Dental Trainer, a virtual simulator for teaching skills to students.

University of Naples Federico II
Federica today is the leading single-university platform in Europe. Its portfolio of courses now includes over 150 MOOCs, with more in the pipeline, covering the main academic subjects. In 10 years of its existence, Federica has issued over 400 online courses. Federica courses mirror the content of the on-campus version, so they offer students support or supplementary work, or even a valid alternative to the university lecture hall. The learning experience is very user-friendly thanks to an incredibly effective interface that combines text, video and a wide range of links to authoritative learning resources on the web. MOOCs address different target audiences: the student population, from those unable to attend classes to those who, after their lecture, like to revise the study notes and content on the train or at home. And then there is the growing army of lifelong learners, including professionals and workplace learners, members of the public administration and the new 4.0 industries.

The University of Aberdeen has delivered courses on FutureLearn focussed on big issues in society such as food and nutrition, international development and sustainability. The University of Aberdeen has delivered courses on FutureLearn focussed on big issues in society such as food and nutrition, international development and sustainability. Learners’ Toolkit is the University’s multi-award winning digital information resource that provides users, principally staff and students at the University, with ‘Tips, tools and techniques to make life easier at University’. The majority of resources within the toolkit are open access as they are applicable to a wide range of ‘learners’. Those resources that require a login are very specific to University staff and students.
Aberdeen University Research Archive (AURA) is an open access institutional repository for the University’s research outputs. AURA provides a rich source of resources for research led undergraduate and taught postgraduate teaching and for supporting the University’s postgraduate students.
University of Duisburg-Essen
The University of Duisburg-Essen is member of the joint project “digiLL NRW” with four other universities in the country of north rhine westphalia and started in september 2017. The digital platform is an innovative tool for providing online courses as OER. The target group are teachers in schools. It is provided by “Zentren für Lehrerbildung”, it corresponds using the term Department of Education. The online-courses are provided in German.

University of Iceland
Icelandic online is primarily aimed at individuals who live in Iceland and would like to learn the language to certain extent. There is a short survival course and a five level course with interactive video and audio exercises,, and finally, a course undertaken with the help of a tutor. The last one has a charge. These courses have proved very useful and popular.
The tutor-web was designed to be a research tool and includes an on-line drilling system. It has been used for several classes of 1-600 students, collecting up to 250 thousand student answers per year to drill questions in the largest classes. These pages contain background information regarding the tutor-web. The actual tutor-web entrance is at http://tutor-web.net but the following provides basic information for students.
